homebound...

So i figured i should update on the happenings of our house the last two weeks. they have been a crazy "dream"..and not one of those dreams you wanna keep replaying.

Friday, August 26th:
Ed debated on driving the motorcycle to work or not, i made him take the car telling him i had absolutely no where to go, just take the car.  So off to work he went.  6:38pm i call him, no answer {not unusual when he's out in the desert, but he didn't even answer his work phone... KINDA odd, but not unusual.}  SO i let the kids leave a goodnight message before getting them in bed.. and cute mack said "i love you daddy. be safe at work."
about 8:30 or 9.. i get a call from a number that just says "520". odd, i don't answer random calls like that. but on the last ring, i remembered that's what comes up when ed calls from the BORSTAR office when he's in doing work in there.  Usually he'll call back on his phone, before i really had time to process, the "520" called again and as i answered i got a sick feeling cause i knew it wasn't ed calling.
Julie, ed's supervisor said " I just want you to know, your husband is okay."  WHAT??  who in the world says that first thing on the phone... I said "EXCUSE ME?" she said there had been an atv accident at work and ed had gotten injured. they didn't know the extent except that it was his leg, he was coherent and fine but with medics to get enroute to the hospital.

SO many things flooded my head but all i could do was start bawling and mumble a bunch of stuff that i'm sure confused Julie to no end.  I then freaked out remembering Ed took the car to work. i can't drive a motorcycle, nor can i pack two kids on one.  KIDS.. what do i do with the kids. they are finally asleep for the night, i don't wanna wake them up just to fight them at an ER for who knows how long.  then i remembered my friend, heather, was home and  her SIL lives there so i thought i could go ask heather just to sit at my house IN CASE my kids needed something and so i could get to ed. {oh julie said she was already on her way to come get me}  I locked my kids in our apt {against my better judgement.. i really sat at the front door debating if i should even do that.. heather doesn't have a phone so i had to go to her house..} i decided it'd be quick and my only option really, so i ran to heathers {the next building over} bawling and hysterical she immediately put her shoes on before i could even ask her to come with me.  what a friend to drop everything {on her hubby's night off too!} and she sat at my house till 2am when i returned!

anyway, julie got me, filled me in and calmed me down.  we got to the hospital and actually beat ed there... the bird {like that BP lingo? :)  helicopter} had a hard time getting to land near ed and it was taking WAY longer than it should have to get him out.  So i ended up getting to the hospital before ed.  We all decided it best NOT to let ed know i was there.. since he was YELLING on scene and saying don't call my wife yet. he wasn't gonna tell me till the morning so that i would just get sleep.. little turd.

anyway, come to find out the accident happened shortly after 6:30 pm... ed got to UMC at 10 pm ish.  WAY too much time to get there... but i started bawling again when i heard the time of the accident cause i kept picturing ed flying in the air while mack was sweetly saying, "be safe daddy".

I finally got to go back and see him in the ER. i bawled when i saw him cause he was in SO much pain, so bruised up. I've never seen ed like this.  it's hard.  He immediately said, with a smile.. i told them not to tell you. i smiled through my tears and said, you'd have two broken legs if they hadn't:)

I stayed with him through the ER {them setting his leg.. O.U.C.H.  that was seriously the worst thing to watch.} then we got up to his room and i sat with him for awhile till i knew what the dr's had planned then i headed home to get SOME sleep before i was gonna head back.

now since i've been detailed enough.. he broke his right leg {tib-fib.. clean break} and fractured his ankle.  they gave him surgery, complete with a titanium rod down his tibia.  things went well, but recovery is slow and painful.

He and i realize how lucky he was... could have been much worse, way worse break, etc... AND thankfully he and his partner that night decided to wear their helmets, cause i was again in tears when i saw the marks on his helmet.  so thankful for him wearing that helmet.

*He hit a wash, the atv flipped up and when he came back down his hand hit the throttle and threw him into the next wash.  Hit that, flipped up but didn't land back down on the bike again but to the side and the bike ran over his leg and snapped it.  He was only going 5 mph ish so it was all slow motion and he keeps replaying it over and over and over.*

Now the fun part.. pictures!

Right leg, before surgery...

After surgery...yes the fibula is left broken, lame but apparently it will fix itself.

Right ankle before surgery... click to see the actual fracture.. wasn't big but pins to be safe...
ankle after surgery...

Ellie loves her blanket too but a little too much she cries if we take it away and wants it all the time! it gets so dirty haha. but i agree its pretty cute when they do that. I cant wait to see the video of little E's Elephant sound i just so ooooh oooh for an elephant Its not the best but Ellie likes it :)
