could i BE anymore stressed...

time for a "woe is me" post:)
I feel like so much is happening in my life right now, i'm going nuts.  I am not very nice to anyone, moody, busy, sleep, physically and emotionally drained... so getting a sick kid was not something i wanted to add to the plate.

Little man got a fever last thursday.  lasted for about 2 days then went away.  But then saturday he presented with a cough.  it was a raspy voice-sore throat sounding so we just gave him fluids and rest and didn't think much of it. Sunday, it got lots worse and sunday night, we had the seal bark :(  So, i said i'd call his Ped. in the morning to get him in monday.  Well, got him in monday and you could now audibly hear e breath in and out--wheezing, struggling.  the dr. took one look and said, go to the ER {he still did an exam but pretty much said, leave:)} Thankfully i had a good friend who offered to take mack for a playdate to go to this appt and then so kindly offered to take mack till ed could get to her..six hours later:(  thanks cheryl!
So off to the ER... sleepy, sad e and a bawling momma.  We got right in and they diagnosed croup right away. Oral Steroids were ordered and breathing treatments.  Poor kid hated it ALL.. so did his momma.
we ended up doing one steroid, two breathing treatments and one cool mist treatment.  They wanted him admitted to a hospital over night but he took well to the second so, AMA {against medical advice} i took e home to avoid an ambulance ride.  Then headed home to discuss with ed if we should take him to UMC or not.  We decided not.  E was sounding good, running around playing and happy. so we set up the pack in play in our room and let e camp out next to us so we could listen to him better.  he did fine!  all night!  and all day! still coughing but no barking.
Come tuesday night we kept him in with us again, and to our dismay {and e's} he woke up gasping for air.. twice!  couldn't even get air to cough.  so up we got and i took him to the ER at UMC at 2 am.  another steroid, two more breathing treatments.. again, he hated them. i'm not a fan of pinning down a thrashing scared child.  and we were admitted to the Ped unit at 8 am tuesday morning.  they wanted to watch him for 24 hours.  he did great all day.  the treatments seemed to kick in fast and well this time that all he needed in the 24 hours was observation.  After a battle to get him discharged {a very unhappy momma was so upset, got emotional and yelled at a doc and told him to never come back in our room....oops!} we got to go home this morning at 8.  thanks to more friends, mack was able to have more fun playdates when ed needed to be at work, thanks heather!
now we are home. he's still doing good. coughing, but not wheezing.. hopefully he keeps improving.  he's been asleep for the last 4 hours straight:)  we have a follow up with his Ped tomorrow and we'll go from there. but this is one tired momma...
