have i mentioned i HATE the er? if not, let me reiterate...I HATE THE ER. the DOUGLAS er at that. So after e was finished getting his physical. i asked dr. john if maybe he could take a look at mack's ears. she had woken up with a fever friday morning and was tugging at them. They checked her fever and drum roll.. 105 AGAIN! what the heck? so he turned it into a full check out and looked her over head to toe. no other symptoms besides the fever. now since we were so late into a friday afternoon, labs at the clinic were closed, so dr. john {after calling and consulting with a ped in tucson who specializes in infection and fevers} said i had no other option but to go to the er to get labs tested again. This time was to include blood draws and cultures.
Seriously, the er two times in a week and a half? SO not cool. poor mack was a freaking champ. sweaty and hot we walked her naked butt into the er and they started the poking and prodding. of course at this point e was ready to eat again, so i grabbed my trusty hooter hider {thanks mare} and tried to feed him.. but he couldn't relax knwoing his sister was being tortured so i had to leave the room to feed him while mack stayed in the room with grandma. it killed me hearing her yell "momma" while i was in the hall finishing with e.
Ed got off work and came right to the er to be with us. we were both super frustrated they were just doing the same tests. anyway, once again, ALL labs came back negative {or so that's what the er dr. told us} then he came in and said "okay, now we go for a spinal tap"...uh, excuse me? spinal tap? for a FEVER? with NO other symptoms? i don't think so. Ed and I promptly refused that one, much to er dr.'s dismay. then we said, we want to go home. they said, well we are going to give her an antibiotic first then you can go. we asked why that was needed if they found no infection, and they just said she needed it and we said no. we are going home now.
they finally let us go. mack was thrilled to get rid of the iv's and pokes and the board she had to wear to keep her arm from bending. (oh i had to leave during the 2nd blood draw cause they missed and mack was screaming so loud, i lost it and went in the hall).
Dr. John called us on saturday and wanted us to come in with a check up. we went, he had looked over the labs and said they should not have even suggested a spinal tap so he was glad we refused it. also, he said the labs weren't completely conclusive and that she had some sort of bacteria but they weren't sure what or where. the blood cultures are coming back soon and we have a follow up appointment in a few weeks. Dr. john is the best, he keeps calling specialist and consulting with them before he does anything to mack. i like that. anyway, so for now, she just gets super high fevers for some unknown reason and we just have to try to comfort her and keep her cool. poor girl.

man that is tough- you guys are troopers. I hate the heat too! its so lame i wish it would rain here but i know it wont. poor mack, E is so cute! he looks like you i think.
